Build the John Smith Busker Organ
By Burl Updyke

To the person who recently requested plans to build a small organ,
I highly recommend the plans for a busker type organ available from
John Smith in the U.K. I built the organ last summer, and it has been
a source of constant joy. The design is quite simple, using the holes
in the roll music as valves to admit air to the pipes. Using well-
arranged music (Melvyn Wright) the organ sounds very good.

I have been interested in pipe organs all my life but never thought it
would be possible to make one. The project is somewhat challenging,
but can be accomplished in a fairly short time. I built mine in just
six weeks of spare time. I enjoyed it so much that I am now building
the next of John's designs, the Senior 20.

So my advice, if you want a nice little organ, send for the plans and
get started. You won't regret it! While I don't consider myself an
expert, I am willing to offer assistance from what I learned from
building my organ.
