Chester Kuharski
By Mark Kinsler

Sam Harris wrote, "I have read the Chester Kuharski article ..."

I have only a small contribution to add here: I know very little about
reproducing pianos, but unlike much of the general public, I do know
the difference between a player piano and a reproducer. The reason
I know this much is that I once worked with Chet Kuharski. I knew him
only as a senior broadcast engineer at WTSO-AM in Madison, Wisconsin.
I worked there for a short time in 1971, during which time he taught
me both broadcast engineering techniques and as much about Duo-Art
reproducing pianos as I could absorb. Only years later did I learn
that he was a recognized expert in the field of mechanical musical
instruments.

Chet was a proud, somewhat irascible Wisconsin Polish-American, best
known at the station for his furious reaction when Bob Dylan's "Lay
Lady, Lay" was added to WTSO's generally conservative music playlist.
He was always polite and helpful, and suffered my general foolishness
with tremendous patience.
