Sticking Center Pins on Steinway Vertical Piano
By Herb Lindahl

I have been servicing pianos and player pianos for 25 years in
Connecticut. The problem mentioned by Randolph Herr is very
common in Steinway uprights and grands from the early part of the
1900's.

Several lubricants seem to work, but I have found no permanent solution
to the problem except to replace flanges and pins, or better still the
entire action. There is usually so much wear on the leather and felt
anyway, that clean new action parts are what these high quality
instruments need and deserve.
