Replacement Power Toggle Switch for Ampico
By Bruce Clark
Sooner or later we, who own an Ampico are faced with a worn out or
broken electric motor on and off switch.
Recently I discovered that an electrical switch from a Hoover vacuum
cleaner (with some modification) is a very good substitute. The
plastic toggle can be drilled and a small nail or rod can be glued
in place. The switch itself, is small enough to fit into the Ampico
cast iron switch box; with a bit of filing and using epoxy glue it can
be bonded to the brass metal plate. (Should it ever be necessary to
remove the switch and epoxy, the metal can be heated and the epoxy bond
will let go.)
I am sure that the switch can be obtained from most any Hoover dealer
at a modest expense. The switch that I have is marked "Hoover 10 Amp.
125v." and numbered 16.
