Just a note to let you know that the third volume of reproducing piano
rolls on CD from Pierian has been released. It is a 2-CD set of all
the [Welte] rolls recorded by Fannie Bloomfield Zeisler, from her three
recording sessions in 1908, 1912 and 1924. Ken Caswell's Fuerich piano
has never sounded better, which in turn provides a wonderful view of
the artist's skill and technique. This release is even better than the
Debussy and Granados, if that is possible.
When I spoke with Ken this week, he said that the Debussy has been
selling beyond their expectations and they anticipate having to do
another pressing later this summer, and likewise another pressing of
the Granados in the fall.
This is a shameless plug for the CD, but my humble opinion is that
it's the best recording of any reproducing piano, bar none. (Again,
the usual commercial disclaimer is inserted at this point).
Enjoy!
