I didn't read all posts re this topic (and also not any initial
comments by Robbie and/or Jody), but please

That's the way I found MMD -- it just popped up a hundred times when
I searched for "band organ" with Alta Vista;
* charge a fee for "advanced services", but have lots of free
information. This is in the spirit of the Internet, and many people
(me included) still expect it.
After all, there is no "mandatory fee" on the internet -- if I don't
want to pay, I won't (and maybe lose the service).
One more thought: The GSM here in Germany has about 600 members (a
little less, if I remember correctly), in a country with 80 million
people! It appears to me that one of our problems is to get _more_
fans. Paying a steep fee on entry to any fan group will not solve
this.
And a confession: I have not sent any money up to now. I tried once,
but I did not find the page where you could pay via Visa, and all other
means are too awkward from over here (Germany). But I'll try again;
it should work this time.

You are wrong here. Quite a few people (at least here in Germany)
still earn money with barrel organs, and I have talked to a few which
you could describe as more or less "homeless".
