Seek Tuning Scale of Mirecourt Barrel Organ
By Craig Smith

Hi, I have a bit of a problem and I would appreciate some help from
owners and restorers of barrel organs.

I am restoring an organ made by D. Poirot of Mirecourt, France.
It has 26 keys. There are 3 bass pipes, 8 single pipes and 15 pairs
of pipes. The pipes are in terrible shape (they're falling apart),
but I have figured out the _order_ of the tuning of the pipes.

A friend and I have built a fixture to 'read' the pins on the barrel
(which is in very good shape) and I have created a MIDI file of that
data. Then I arranged the strings of notes in what I believe is the
correct order. I have made several attempts to arrange the pipes using
different scales but they all sound very wrong.

My several references and numerous examples of other organs do not
include this particular pipe arrangement, so I am writing to ask if
someone has had experience with this type organ. If so, I'd appreciate
it if they would contact me so that I can relate what I know about the
scale. Then perhaps they can give me some advice on determining the
correct tuning scale.

Thanks very much for any help you can give.
