Gluing Ivory Keytops
By Terry Smythe

My 1912 Mason & Risch foot pumped grand still has its original ivories,
all in original pristine condition, not a single chip or crack, pearly
white, gorgeous. Unfortunately, my little granddaughter has found she
can pick off the fronts and carries them to me proudly, "Grampa, Look!"

Now I'm trying to find a suitable glue to put them back into place.
The last time I bought this many years ago, it came in a minimum can
that basically had to be used up in a single job. If I'm not mistaken,
the glue in the can may be same as Model Airplane Balsa Cement
(Testor's?). At least it looks, smells, and behaves the same way.

But it doesn't work very well. Little Talia can still proudly pick off
keytops I glued back into place a few days earlier. Grrr... :-(
At this rate, there may be a limit to grandfatherly affection and love.

Can anybody suggest a type and source of glue suitable for original
ivory keytops that may be available in a neat tube type applicator that
I can use sparingly over a period of a couple of years until Talia
grows out of this affliction. Yes, I could simply lock the keyboard
when she comes over, but her mother loves to play this piano when she's
here. Thoughts of others?

Regards,
