While this can be a problem with any cassette tapes, due to poor
handling and storage, I have not experienced it. I have old original
Pianocorder tapes, newly created tapes and I also utilize direct play
from the computer using a CD adapter in the Pianocorder cassette deck.
Because this particular problem was high resistance in the
record/playback switch, it affected all of these systems.

Not to worry; virtually the entire Pianocorder Library has been
transferred to Midi and cleaned up as needed, by a computer genius who
shall remain nameless at this time. (Not me).
