Golden Gate Park Carousel Organ, San Francisco
By Matthew Caulfield
I can understand why a European book-music organ operating commercially
would be converted to roll operation. Think of trying to run a ride
all day long with all its headaches and then having to re-start a book
each time it came to its end.
True, there are bin arrangements allowing you to paste together several
books into an endless loop and to play them without interruption. But
add the cost of books and their scarcity on this side of the Atlantic
(or Pacific) and it's hard to resist the conversion.
