Mike Kitner's memorial service today was well attended. In fact,
an adjoining room was opened to accommodate the crowd. Particularly
affecting were several testimonies of friends Mike met under different
circumstances.
An easel was covered with photos and articles. Mike's enthusiasm,
skill, and relaxed manner seemed to attract people. He certainly had
a lot of friends.
We heard a recording Mike's Hooghuys organ and a "live" selection from
a small French street organ. Most then adjourned to the Kitner shop
and home. All was just as he'd left it, including a newly restored
Welte reproducing piano drawer, just about to be re-tubed. Mike had
worked on this just days before his death. It was a sad affair, but
an inspiring salute to a fine technician and finer person.
