Hello all, Like I said recently, I had my piano apart for cleaning,
and while I was always curious regarding the numbers, I wasn't able
to get all them until now. I notice that in various places around my
piano, I have at least four different numbers on my piano:
18611 - stamped on brass bridge next to the bass wires, also on a
ivory(?) plate nailed on the inside of the cabinet, and in at least one
other area stamped into the wood in the cabinet. I'm assuming this is
the general serial number of the piano.
455 - stamped on various pieces of the wood cabinet (keyboard cover,
front door, cover over the front of the keys, etc.). I dunno what this
might be, as it doesn't seem to be in one area (like, it's not only
around the keyboard).
55407 - This is the serial number of my _player_. It's stamped into
the wood on the stack and a few other places, like the tempo regulator,
etc. I also have a (now) black sticker in the roll cabinet under the
tracker bar that has the serial number, and essentially says to only
use approved rolls and add-on "accessories" (what add-on accessories
were available?). If you used a non-approved accessory or roll, the
warranty was void. (Uh-oh. I'm screwed.)
4591 - Interestingly enough, I just found this one yesterday. The
_only_ place it's stamped is into the wood on the front door. (The
main front of the cabinet which houses the door to the roll cabinet and
comes off allowing access to the entire stack and player assembly.
I remember seeing a site somewhere that has a list of serial numbers
and the date that that piano was made, anyone have it? I'm curious to
find out. Also, if anyone knows a lot about Aeolian pianos/players,
I'm interested in what the other numbers were used for/are.
Thanks!
