Hi All, Spencer Chase expressed concern with regards to the
preservation of technical information about the various player and
reproducing systems.
When I first started Player-Care, I had one main goal in mind: to
educate the public about player pianos. I believe that to a large
degree I have achieved that goal. However, somewhere along the way
I found myself gathering every piece of technical literature I could
get my hands on. Naturally, as a player piano rebuilder for about
25 years when I started the site, I already had a fair amount of
information but the file drawer kept getting more crowded.
In the past two years, the sale of technical materials increased twelve
fold, so it's unlikely that this information will ever get 'lost' or
forgotten. Furthermore, the Archives at the MMD keep growing as
enthusiasts and rebuilders add specific information about specific
problems and repair/rebuilding techniques.
Once again, I'd like to suggest that Jody and Robbie consider selling
CD's of archived information. The simple fact is, every article in the
MMD was given to them for the purpose of educating the rest of us.
Personally, I see no problem with selling that information. At the
very least, that would create a source of continuing revenue for the
site. And if there is a down-side to my thinking, I don't see it.
Musically,
John A. Tuttle
