"The Night We Got the Bird", a British 1960 unfunny comedy shown here
on Channel 4 at 1330 yesterday, contains three short appearances of an
Aeolian upright. I couldn't see the model type or much detail. The
Temponamic lever identified it as a Duo-Art and indeed it played
electrically, the roll just visible. One door of the roll box was
shut, the other open.
A bride is due to make an appearance at a house where a reception is
waiting. On her arrival someone says, "Switch on the electric pianola".
Someone does, and out comes "Here comes the Bride". The sound is obviously
overdubbed in post production. A little later the piano is seen closed
up.
A little later still it is open again and when some character bumps
into it, it starts up and plays a popular melody, the title of which I
have ashamedly forgotten. All this description flatters a film which
in my opinion is truly dreadful.
Best wishes to all
