To be ready for the arrival of my PowerRoll I purchased WindPlay and
Spencer Chase's E-Roll CD. I listened to them with the sound card in
my computer. What a disappointment. Some of the notes were even out
of tune! I purchased a 'better' sound-card, and it would not even
play.
At Spencer's recommendation I purchased a Kurzweil MicroPiano on eBay
for $206. Wow -- my sound system and the music came alive! Has anyone
else tried the MicroPiano with E-Rolls? It takes a bit of fussing, but
is well worth it.
I can hardly wait for my PowerRoll, but I know you can even enjoy the
E-Rolls without a pneumatic piano.
Thank You, Spencer!
John Spradley
P.S.: I sent Spencer Chase the one roll I had that was not on his
E-Roll CDs, and a couple of days later the MIDI and BAR/ANN files
arrived by E-Mail. I was so pleased with the results I told Spencer
to keep the roll!
[ The Kurzweil KMP-1 is a small external box which accepts MIDI wireline
[ data and outputs piano sounds from stored waveform samples. It can
[ be connected to any computer with a MIDI output capability. The
[ unit was introduced in 1994, I believe; the value on the used market
[ is now $200 to $250. For a "standard of comparison" for evaluating
[ sampled piano sounds, visit MMDer Warren Trachtman's web page of
