Greetings all, I'm attempting to locate a couple of Welte Licensee
rolls for Ken Caswell (he is not on the net). He was contacted several
months ago by Igor Kipnis, the harpsichordist (and the grandson of Welte
artist Heniot Levy), asking if Ken could make a CD recording of all the
Welte rolls that Mr. Levy made. Ken has located all the rolls with the
exception of the following:
6591 Prelude & Fugue, transcribed by Liszt, composed by J.S. Bach
6562 Nocturne, Op 62 # 2., composed by Chopin
Ken would like to borrow them for a month, in order to make the
recordings, and will return them posthaste. A reasonable security
deposit will be forwarded prior to the owner sending them off, if so
desired.
In return for this assistance, Ken is happy to return the rolls, with
a copy of his Granados CD. Perhaps Mr. Kipnis could be persuaded to
send a letter of appreciation also. So if you have the above rolls and
would consider lending them out, please contact me via email, or
evenings in California at (562) 731-0131.
I would like to say that I listened to the Granados CD today and I am
mightily impressed; it is even better than the Debussy! Granados is
one of those rare composers that is able to also triumph at the
keyboard; so many composers were mediocre pianists, even on a good day.
So again, support this effort by Ken & Karl Miller by buying the
Granados or the Debussy. (Shameless plug!) Ken also mentioned that
he will do all the known recordings of Ravel (Welte, Duo-Art & early
phonograph) if there is sufficient return on the CDs now offered.
(Again, the usual commercial disclaimer tags along at the end).
