Just an update to let everyone know that two more CD's of Welte piano
rolls are planned by Ken Caswell. Albany Distributors will be offering
his digitally recorded CD of all the piano rolls Enrique Granados made
for Welte. The CD will be available in early November. Later, in
December, Albany will release a two-CD set of all the Welte rolls made
by Fannie Bloomfield Zeisler.
Ken wasn't sure but he thought that the pressings are 1,000 copies per
release. He also said that if the Debussy CD (already released) sells
well, and the other two above sell reasonably well, then Albany will
likely entertain releasing additional recordings of other artists and
composers. We had spoken about Teresa Carreno as one of the next
projects.
The Debussy CD has received favorable reviews by most major critics.
Ken has spent many hours getting the mikes right and the recording done
to his exacting standards, so it is well worth having. I encourage our
MMD subscribers to spend a little, to insure that other recordings of
long forgotten artists are made available for the uninitiated to enjoy.
Who knows, maybe even spark additional interest in mechanical music?
The usual commercial disclaimer is inserted at this point.
