Music Roll Copying Machine
By Rob Buckingham

Hi All, I have a few thoughts in response to Harold Mueller's note on
roll perforating equipment. I don't know how it was done originally,
but I plan to build one in the future and, consequently, have given
some thought to the matter.

It seems to me that the best way to do it (without involving computers)
would be to employ an electro-pneumatic set up. What I plan to do is
to attach a copper-coated button to the pouch (where the disk would
normally be) and another .100-inch (or whatever) above. This would be
the equivalent of a normally-open contact.

The whole thing could be wired up at a low voltage (24v) and hooked up
to an accompanying solenoid. The punch on the solenoid could be driven
directly or indirectly from this point. What ever works best. I would
throw a little DC motor on the drive mechanism for speed control.

This seems like an easy way to get something like this going and would
be reliable. I may be wrong, but I think some organs operate on this
principle.

While I am at it, I have always wanted to see a wiring diagram for a
Mills Violano. Does anyone have one they could send me?

My Regards,
Rob Buckingham

[ The pouch switch assembly provided with the Moller player pipe
[ organ (late 1920s) had a tiny silver bar glued to the pouch,
[ which contacted stationary silver wires. It was quite elegant!
