Dear Mr. Kravitz, We have recently inherited a cylinder music box,
19" x 8-3/4" x 7" high, with a hinged inlay top in beautiful condition.
Upon opening it there is another glass hinged top covering the
workings. The cylinder is 7-5/8" long and about 2" in diameter, with
6 tunes. The comb is missing 6 teeth. Do you know of anyone that can
repair or replace this comb? Or is it better left alone?
The markings on the mechanical assembly consist of M F over a cross
with an S on top of the cross (the cross could stand for a T). Under
this is the date 1816.
There are patents on it as follows: September 22, 1885, December 6,
1887, and March 8, 1888. Under this is "DRP 3356" and "43585".
Could you give us any information on this music box? Or could you put
us in contact with someone who could help us?
Thank you for your help!
