Re: Building New Barrel Organ Clock Mechanism, 000926 MMD
My late friend Karl Kochmann wrote several books on Black Forest
clocks. The one that deals with barrel organ clocks is
Black Forest Music Clocks, by Karl Kochmann

On Karl's passing John Peirson of Clockworks Press brought the reprint
rights. He is at

This is a small volume that deals with the genealogy of the descendants
of Ignaz Bruder. Most of the volume is technical schematics on how
such clocks work. There is enough information to construct the musical
part, with sections on pipe scales and music arranging. Additional are
some translated German articles and quite a few color pictures detailing
many examples, including a Bruder and Gavioli band organ.
Karl also wrote a book on Cuckoo Clocks, which is much larger and is
somewhat the bible on identifying them. There is a small section on
trumpeters, and an overview of the musical ones. He also authored
trademark indexes which are useful in determining German and Austrian
manufactures and genealogies. According to Karl, Ignaz Bruder is known
because he wrote books in the local German dialect.
