Hello, Thank you so much for your prompt response.
I am directing a reenactment of the 1850 First National Woman's
Rights Convention for a non-profit historical group in Massachusetts.
The original record of the convention notes "hurdy gurdy" music
(actually a grinders organ strapped around the players neck) being
played downstairs. Since the music comes from offstage, tapes would
do. However, the music was Stephen Foster melodies such as "My Old
Kentucky Home" and "Oh Susannah" and "Old Dan Tucker." If I substitute
I would need 1850 or earlier carnival type songs, as the music came
from a "Freak Show" in the convention hall basement.
I heard the sound when I was a child and love it as it is so earthy.
The event will get much news coverage in the northeast. Hope you can
help with the CDs. The group has limited funds and could not buy an
instrument (unfortunately).
Do you have contacts in the Massachusetts area or Connecticut who
might actually play at our reenactment?
Hope to hear from you ASAP.
Louisa
