Jelly Roll Morton vs. W. C. Handy
By Mike Meddings
The first report of the altercation between Morton and Handy was
published in the Baltimore Afro-American, dated 23rd April 1938,
page 10, column 1. This is the first of many articles that would
continue up to and beyond Morton's death.
Also included are two Jelly Roll Morton obituary articles by George
Hoefer Jr. and Onah Spencer which were first published in the 1st
August 1941 issue of 'Down Beat.' These articles make fascinating
reading. Thanks to Prof. Alan Wallace for these two items.
The Recordings page has been updated to include 3 images of rare
78 r.p.m. records from the collection of Roger Richard. Just click
on the blue link for 'Muddy Water Blues' - 'Kansas City Stomp' -
'Milenberg Joys.'
Musically yours
