Henry A. Kieselhorst Piano Co, St. Louis MO
By Julian Dyer
It was interesting to see a reference to the Kieselhorst Piano Co. of
St. Louis in yesterday's MMD. The name seemed vaguely familiar, and
I've just realised what it is.
I have a book, John McTammany's 'History of the player', which was
sent by its author to contacts in the piano trade. My copy is
inscribed with a name and has a date stamp for 1 Jun 1914.
Up to now I've not managed to read the owner's signature, although
I knew it must be someone in the piano trade. With the prompt from
the MMD, I can see the book says 'Property of Henry A. Kieselhorst,
St. Louis, Mo.' Wonderful! Another bit fits into the jigsaw.
Mr. Kieselhorst received copy number 190 of McTammany's limited
edition of 1000 books. Judging by the complete absence of this book
in any reference material or library, he must have been one of the
very few to have kept his copy!
Does anybody have any details of Henry A. Kieselhorst or the
Kieselhorst Piano Company? It would be very nice to fill in a bit
more of this books history and know more about someone who must
have had a small part in player history.
