Chein Melody Player Music Roll Drive
By David Snelling
I recently bought a Chein Melody Player on eBay auction. The machine
is in good cosmetic shape with plenty of rolls but (and I knew this
when I purchased it) the mechanical drive needs remedial work.
I attach a photo image of the drive works.
It seems as all I have to do is to secure the drive gear wheel (made
of Paxolin) to its shaft and make sure it is in line with the endless
worm which transmits the motion into the radial air pump which provides
the puff to sound the roll notes.
The endless worm lies underneath and at right angles to the gearwheel
but does not show up well in the picture. However, the picture shows
up some pressed metal flanges with holes, and I wonder whether these
are for shafts which held some other parts such as a flywheel which
may have gone AWOL. Can any MMD subscriber please help me with
details of any missing bits or, better still, set my mind at rest
before I get busy in the workshop?
By the way, does anyone have a disposable but seriously damaged
Rolmonica with a mouth organ with good chrome side panels, as mine
have gone very rusty?
