I would have thought you could get a nice 88-note Weber player
grand here in UK for under GBP 3,000 rather than GBP 9,000! Lots
of dealers in many countries don't have a clue when it comes to
mechanical music. They rarely see anything, and because they are
'tone deaf' or have never heard a fully restored or rebuilt item,
they presume the instrument sounds as it should.
In an antique mall 5 miles from me there was a cylinder musical box
with 4 missing teeth, 9 missing tips, had had a 'run' and was generally
in poor shape. The owner knows me and was surprised I had not shown
any interest. The reason was the price tag: GBP 950.
He asked me to make an offer, and when I explained what was wrong
with it and the cost of repairs and offered him GBP 300 for, it his
reply was, "Thanks for the info. Don't worry, I will find a mug who
does not know as much as you do about it." That's another place
I won't be buying from.
As to the 65-note roll at 35 pounds, I can't even get 3 pounds for the
100 or so rolls that I have for disposal, so please, Mark, tell me who
buys them...
