Jelly Roll Morton Web Page Updated
By Mike Meddings
Just a note to let you know that the Jelly Roll Morton page has been
updated with some tremendous items of interest. New data is indicated
by a "NEW" revolving button; just scroll down the page until you meet
the logo(s).
Over the past week some terrific new and fully documented information
has been gathered by Alan Wallace and Jim Dapogny and myself concerning
Morton's appearance at The Alhambra Theater in Milwaukee in August
1927. In fact, Morton's debut there coincided with Charles Lindberg's
triumphal parade. There is a good chance of a picture of the Alhambra
Theater -- I'm working on this item.
Karl Ellison sends a Mack and Mack (Billy and Mary McBride) article
from the Elmore Theatre in Pittsburgh. Fran Pinsker has located the
Elmore Theatre in Pittsburgh: the theatre featured many named artists
including Bessie Smith. Hope you enjoy the new documented material.
Musically yours
