Violano Rollography Project
By John J. Breen

Dear MMD, I am working with Art Reblitz to expand his listing of
Violano rolls. My part in this project is to enter the data into
a computer database and to gather as much of the missing information
as possible.

We are attempting to include the following information about each roll:
roll number, roll title, song number, song title, song type, composer,
copyright information and duration of the song.

Over the years, Art had acquired copies of the 1916 and 1925 catalogs
which cover all the desired data on rolls 100-966 and 1990-2380.
I have completed the entry of the first catalog and I am well under
way from the second. In addition, Art has collected roll number, roll
title, song number and song title information on many of the rolls from
1800-3000. There are a fair number of holes in this range, but about
75% is there.

This means that there is little or no information on rolls 967-1800 and
3000-3200 in addition to the missing information on the other rolls.
I am looking for copies of any other Violano catalogs to try to fill in
the blanks. If anyone has other catalogs that they would be willing to
loan or copy for this project, I would greatly appreciate it.

As the database gets closer to completion with the data already
collected, I will compile a more complete list of rolls that are
missing. I was surprised when I found that I owned 6 of the missing
rolls myself in my rather small collection, so I do not think it will
be impossible to complete this list.

I will be at the MBSI convention in San Jose, so if anyone has copies
of catalogs or roll labels that they would like to get to me, I will be
more than happy to take delivery of that information there to avoid
mailing costs. Thank you for your help. I will keep everyone posted
as this project progresses.
