I thought you all might like to know of my experiences yesterday
morning. I was browsing round and antique furniture place with my
fiancee and spied a black art-nouveau style pianola bench. I asked
the dealer how much, and he said, "What, for the small black table?"
"Yes," I replied "but are you sure it's a table, the top's sloping."
"Nah," he went on, "it's just the floor's a bit uneven." So I bought
that dead cheap as he must've felt guilty at fleecing me for a
slope-topped table. What a fool!
I also picked up a absolutely fabulous 1920's phonograph stand with
a double record rack inside. The top half has slots for 10" disks and
a metal pointer you point to whichever number record you want, pull the
lever and it rolls the record out to you! The cabinet is burr walnut,
French polished. Also the guy didn't really seem to know what it was.
I'd love to tell you how much I had the lot away for but I guess that's
"off-thread" apart from merely to say that I still had enough left to
go buy lunch for two afterwards!
Yours sincerely
