Angelus Orchestral Player Pianos
By Adam G. Ramet
I have recently confirmed the definite existence of a new variety of
player piano in the Angelus (Wilcox & White) range. What I have found
is the existence of their Orchestral push-up incorporated into a player
piano.
The Angelus Orchestral was a push-up piano player with organ reeds
inside which could be played alone or in tandem to the piano. The new
type I have unearthed is a regular Angelus player piano which actually
has reeds mounted on the stack inside the piano!
I have evidence of a 65/88-note and also a 88-note only version.
I've not seen any evidence of any advertising for these instruments
ever. I suspect that these may have been made very briefly using up
old Angelus Orchestral parts or alternately made up to special order.
They are domestic instruments intended apparently for home use. They
do not appear to have been designed for photoplayer usage or similar.
Can anyone shed any light on these oddities? Any information however
small or apparently trivial is will be most gratefully received.
Yours sincerely
Adam Ramet
