I've thought of a way to add one more note in the melody section of the
66 key B.A.B. tracker bar scale without adding more holes. This would
allow for easier transcribing of Wurlitzer 165 to 66 key B.A.B. and vice
versa since you would have the topmost note in the melody that the
current 66 key B.A.B. scale lacks. It would also allow easy
transcribing of 65 key Bruder book music to my proposed modification of
the 66 key B.A.B. tracker scale. There will be only one hole used for
the snare drum rather than two.
[ Jeff's method is essentially (1) to change the snare drum from
[ double beater (which uses two tracker bar holes) to a single
[ reiterating beater mechanism, and (2) to use the former 2nd snare
[ drum hole to expand the melody division. I asked Jeff to describe
[ other necessary changes. -- Robbie
It is quite likely that in many cases the snare drum beater action
would need to be modified because you would have only one hole
controlling the snare drum rather than two. Then some of the tracker
bar tubing would have to be moved over by one hole otherwise the wrong
pipes would play.
Lastly new rolls would have to be cut since the two tracker bar scales
are not interchangeable but the same roll perforator can be used for
both. I would only recommend changing over to the new scale when the
organ is rebuilt or when an organ is constructed. However, the old
tracker bars can still be used thus eliminating the need for new
tracker bars.
The scale is as follows:
0 Shutoff
1 Bass Drum
2 Snare Drum
3 to 8 Bass C, D, E, F, G, A
9 to 18 Accompaniment G, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, E, F, F#
19 to 40 Melody G - D, E, F
41 to 54 Countermelody F-D, E-G (baritone, clarinet)
55 Band leader
56 General cancel
57 Trombone on
58 Play
59 Rewind
60 Bells on (M)
61 Celeste on (M)
62 Violin pipes on (M)
63 Flute on (M)
64 Piccolo on (M)
65 Trumpet or baritone on (CM)
