FS: Hupfeld Phonola Converted for 88-Note Rolls
By Roger Waring

For Sale: Upright 72-note pneumatic pedal Hupfeld Phonola, converted
to play standard 88-note rolls. Fully checked out and repaired where
necessary by myself. 2-year guarantee.

Black casework only fair; not unattractive, though. Can be renovated
if required at extra cost. Keys ivory, all have small chips at front
edges. Can replace with modern material at extra cost if required.

Controls are of the "swing out and up" arrangement; housing tucks away
under keybed when not in use. Very responsive large button-type
sustain. Separate lever-operated soft treble and bass features reduce
stack suction. Lever-operated Solodant feature advances bass half of
hammer rail.

Piano action good; plays well with nice tone. Soundboard okay. All
notes play with good repetition on piano and player. Player action
quite superb, responds to lightest touch. Hupfeld design incorporates
stack in same lower assembly as foot bellows, so all suction travels
through sealed wooden chambers to speaking pneumatics. Virtually no
suction loss.

Piano is easy to tune and maintain as only trackerbar and wind motor
are above key level. Block of lead tubes carry note signals to
manifold at key level, a very neat arrangement. Whole upper assembly
comes out in one simple movement. Even rookie tuners couldn't fail
to put this back together properly!

Tuned to concert pitch and holding. A delight to pump, "So easy a
child really can play it!" ;-) A really nice pumper if it is music
you want, rather than showroom looks. Digital photos available upon
request.

UKP 1000, delivered, anywhere in mainland UK.
