Over-wound Spring Motor

I'd take it to a clock shop with a good spring winder, and have it
properly cleaned.  A music box spring, like a clock spring, if it is
properly cleaned and lubricated, will never become "overwound".

Binding when wound is caused by dirt and lack of lubrication causing
excessive friction between the spring coils when it is wound tight.
Beware of disassembling the spring motor.  Wound mainsprings can be
VERY dangerous, releasing tremendous amounts of energy suddenly, and
often shattering in the process.
