Cynthia Craig wrote of the Steam & Organ rally at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa,
on Labor Day weekend. Anyone traveling to that organ rally and steam
show might like to make a week's trip out of it and take in the Band
Organ Rally 2000 at the Pioneer Power Show in Le Sueur, Minnesota,
Aug. 26 & 27.
Sponsored by COAA and the Snowbelt Chapter of MBSI, the rally will
include outdoor band organs playing throughout the 104-acre show grounds
and indoor musical boxes displayed and demonstrated in an exhibit
building.
This will be the 27th annual Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Show, which
has an attendance of about 10-12,000 over the Friday-Sunday show. The
show includes antique tractors, engines, cars, trucks and steam
engines. Working demonstrations feature horse- and gas-powered
activities, and there is also an antique tractor pull, a tractor barrel
race, riding model railroad plus much, much more.
Organ set-up for the rally will be on Friday, followed by a picnic for
all registrants. Rally hours are 10-5 Saturday and Sunday, with a
buffet dinner Saturday evening. In celebration of The Year of the
Carousel, we'll visit three local carousels including the 4-row PTC #33
in St. Paul, which has been fully restored and has a Wurlitzer 153,
also completely restored and sounding wonderful.
