Regarding Bernt Damm's questions concerning the sealing of pouch
leathers. Acrylic paint mediums and gel mediums are the same, usually
varying only in viscosity. I found that the medium viscosity was
liquid enough to work into the pores of the leather and not wet it too
much. As leather porosity and surface will vary, tests should be made
for each type.
The container lists Golden Artists Colors Inc., New Berlin, New York,
tel. 607-847-6154 as a contact avenue.
You should probably try the brands which are distributed in South
Africa. Look for a formula of 100% acrylic polymer emulsion. If the
emulsion spreads evenly on the leather without coagulating and binds
well it should work just fine. The emulsions are milky white and dry
almost clear.
The medium is not tacky when dry. Once it has dried the acrylic film
will not dissolve, so keep it only on the leather surface and use fish
glue or hot glue to adhere the leather.
Good Luck!
