Yesterday, Martin Anderson asked how my rebuilding of an Aeolian
Orchestrelle model W was progressing. I plan to keep MMD up to date
on the progress, but right now I have not begun. I don't have the
instrument yet.
The shipment from England went smoothly, but now the organ is stuck
at the shipper's warehouse in nearby Little Washington, PA. We are
trying to figure out how to hire a boom truck (the flatbed with a boom
crane, that is used to deliver cement blocks or pallets of drywall),
to get the huge wooden crate from the warehouse to my garage for
unpacking. If anyone in the Pittsburgh area knows someone who can
do this, I would be grateful for suggestions.
I thought the customs clearing might be a hassle, but it turned out
to be the smoothest part. When I took the documents to the customs
house at the airport, the service was courteous and quick. In fact,
when I showed them my pictures from England, and explained the project,
we ended up having quite a discussion about it, and they waived the
duty. The keys are celluloid, but they didn't even ask.
