Wurlitzer 165 & Geb. Bruder Organ Similarities
By Jeff Alterman

-- forwarded message, please reply to sender and MMD --

A few months ago Jerry Doring sent me some pictures of the interior
of his 65-key Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ. This
organ, which now plays 66-key B.A.B. rolls on one side and Wurlitzer
165 rolls on the other side, used to be on the Stubbman carousel at
Coney Island.

I started to compare his organ to photos of the Wurlitzer 165 on the
Glen Echo carousel, and I noticed that the pipe layout of the Wurlitzer
165 was nearly identical to Jerry Doring's organ.

This April I went to Coney Island and I studied the pipework of the
65-key Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ that is on the
B&B Carousell. It plays 66-key B.A.B. rolls on both spools and is the
sister organ to Jerry Doring's.

I noticed that the pipe layout was basically identical to Jerry
Doring's organ and again very similar to that of the Wurlitzer 165
organ. After careful studying I could definitely determine that the
Wurlitzer 165 was descended from the 65-key Gebruder Bruder "Elite
Orchestra Apollo" and the 69-key Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra
Apollo" organ.

I'm trying to find out what the difference is between the 65-key
Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ verses the 69-key
Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ. I could tell the
differences between the two organs to some extent by studying the
tracker bar scale of both the 65-key "Elite Orchestra Apollo" and the
Wurlitzer 165, though I understand from Ed Openshaw that the 69-key
Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" had two more bass notes than
the Wurlitzer 165.
