Nickel-Plated vs. Blued Steel Tuning Pins
By Dave Smith
Hi All, I've been discussing (okay, arguing!) with a fellow MMD'er
about tuning pins and what is proper when restoring nickelodeons and
player pianos (as little as you may get to restring a player piano).
It is my opinion that, after all the work we have just gone through and
we're now ready to re-install a newly painted plate with new nickel
hardware and a freshly plated pressure bar, I feel that nickel plated
tuning pins "complete" the job and compliments what has been done!
_Plus_, the nickel is not as apt to rust as fast as the blued pins.
My fellow MMD'er feels that the nickel pins are not proper when blued
pins may have been installed originally and equates them to one of
those girls on the street corner using too much makeup -- and I didn't
even know those girls played piano!
We both anxiously await your opinions.
Thanks.
Dave Smith
