Hi, it was suggested that i introduce myself so here goes...
I am Julian Brook, in Birmingham, AL. I recently acquired 4 upright
players that had some discussion here a couple of years ago. I have not
done any player work before but did restore an old stark upright that I
got from goodwill for $10 a back when my son was younger and starting
piano lessons. He needed something to practice on and I, of course,
needed a project. I had/have been doing vintage radios and tvs for
years. In my spare time, when I work, I am a computer consultant and
programmer.
The 4 players I acquired were from Julee Knox (some of you had email
with her back a few years.) 2 of them, a Bell & Co, and a Lakeside are
essentially intact and complete but not yet functional. The Lakeside
has a Simplex action, The Bell I do not know what kind of action yet
(it rests in the piano case on an angle at each end and is held in
place by a large wing nut at each end. The other 2 are a Phillips
and Crew with a double valve 3 tier standard action, and a short
Hardman Peck Pianola Junior (with a Hardman Peck action?) These 2
were in various stages of disassembly when I got them, but I got
everything sorted out and they seem to be essentially complete as well.
I have been thru Reblitz books (both) and have gotten everything pretty
much stabilized and accounted for. Now I am looking forward to really
getting started on them. I don't have as much time as I would like (do
any of us?) so I expect it to take awhile. I will keep you posted.
(hope this wasn't too long. [ Nope! ]
:-)
[ Julian, Welcome aboard. We'll be interested to hear of your
[ progress and the questions that your project(s) bring.
