Okay, I wasn't going to mention this, but since the thread is
going...
I once installed a small Hallet and Davis upright player in our 1979
Dodge motorhome on a $100 wager that I could not do it without cutting
the door. I simply removed the keybed, keycheeks and legs, and it went
right in... so much for the dinette area though!
Carriage bolts went through the bottom of the strung back, and front
legs, and a brace up top. It was solid. I once had a cop stop me in
Arizona, who took one look inside and said "what in the he**!!!
The player also had an electric vacuum pump. Talk about confusing the
campers at KOA! We had a blast, and it became quite a conversation
piece. Player music whenever I wanted, even going down the road, as
long as Chris would change rolls. Who needs a radio??
I left it like that for five years, until I traded motorhomes. However,
Chris put a stop to the "motorhome" piano trend, so I removed the piano,
reinstalled the dinette set, rebuilt the piano and sold it.
By the way, the piano stayed in tune very well, with the exception of
driving out to the west coast. The dry air would make it go flat within
two weeks.
Personally, I enjoyed having one of our players on board, but if I ever
do it again, I would probably use a much smaller player like a Story and
Clark, or a small console.
Andy Taylor.
[ Andy, This story is a scream. I'm sorry its too late to see and
[ hear your traveling piano. -- Jody
