Turbine Pump for Duo-Art
By Steve Greatrex

Hello MMDers, I have spent some time looking at the archives,
searching on Duo-Art and vacuum supply, but I could do with some more
advice.

I have had the opportunity (with house renovations) to place the
steamboat pump (on my 1922 Steinway Duo-Art Grand) in another room,
and while the builders were making a mess (or should that read 'working
very hard'!) I connected an electric vacuum turbine pump to the piano.

The pump has a variable speed control and I have set the vacuum at 30"
but I can't seem to get the piano to play as well. The quiet passages
are quiet but the loud passages are very loud. (The only spill valve
is in the expression box). In the long term I plan to reconnect the
Steamboat Pump but for now It would be nice to turn it down a bit.

Why should the type of pump make so much difference (the later Duo-Art
upright was fitted with a turbine pump) and what can be done ?

Many thanks

Steve Greatrex
