In a recent digest, Mr. Thomas Grace commented about the "Karussells
of Europe" CD produced by Klavier records. I have this CD and have
discussed it and one tune, the "Honeymoon March", in 991230 MMD.
Let me tell you, when you get this CD, you are in for a treat. This
is recorded from the San Sylmar collection. I was there a couple
months ago and, yes, they do have the Style 32 Concert PianOrchestra
and the _huge_ Welte Wotan. I'm not sure about the Helios or Iduna,
although they may be up on the top story, not on display.
I wonder why they call them "band organs", since I have several
other Klavier CD's and each has gotten all the facts straight. Maybe
somewhere along the line, they got mixed up. (Klavier also sells
around four band organ CDs, excellent recordings.) The first few
tracks are of either the Hupfeld or the Popper, and are great, but
the Wotan is, in my opinion, the best-sounding instrument.
Unfortunately, The (Phillips) Wurlitzer 32 PianOrchestra seems to
have the tremolo stuck in the "on" position(or maybe it's supposed to
be that way), but the arrangements are good. The last few tracks are
supposed to be on the Hupfeld and Popper, but seem to be different
instruments.
This is an excellent CD, though, and you will enjoy it.
Best,
Andrew Barrett
