Value of Aeolian 58/65-Note Player
By Bill Boulton
Hello everyone! I was called in to estimate an Aeolian Upright player
today serial number K1067. The owner would like it totally restored,
but on his next breath he wants to know if it's worth all the money.
Here is the description. It is a nice well built Aeolian New York
instrument, with Wessell Nickel Gross action. The treadles hang on
the outside of the bottom board via a clip/chain affair and operate
the pump from under the piano.
The stack is under the keybed and is an integral part of the pump.
The stack plays the action through the keybed and the 65 tracker bar
tubes pass through the keys. The spool box and head sit in front of
the action along with the wind motor.
By the way, the tracker bar is wood with 3 bass holes and 4 treble
holes removable by sliding a brass insert. There is also an adapter
on the drive pin side to allow for this smaller roll.
If any of you have seen this style player before I would appreciate
any information that would help determine it's worth. It has never
been touched for service in its life -- It is all original. I am
guessing it's around 1895 or so.
Thanks for reading.
