Perhaps someone can give me some help concerning the transfer of a MIDI
file from my Mac at home to my Internet-connected PC at work. I wanted
to share with MMD'ers the MIDI file I made of the tune at the end of
Eric Cockyne's book, The Fairground Organ.
Using my Power Mac, I saved the file in MIDI Type 0 format on a PC disk.
When I brought it to my PC machine at work I could not open it. The
icon was that wavy thing which then sends you to a menu so that you can
select the program to open it. So I tried to open it with Cakewalk, the
only MIDI program I have here on my desk. It was not able to open it.
The file was originally made with Master Tracks and I have been able to
bring files to the office previous to this. Now I can't bring any here.
What happened? Although we have several good computer nerds here, none
know about MIDI and music files. Any help would be appreciated.

[ I use this method: Name the file with a DOS-compatible filename,
[ i.e., 8 characters or less, with .MID appended. Launch a Mac-to-DOS
[ conversion program, such as Apple File Exchange, and insert a floppy
[ disk which is already formatted for DOS. Transfer the file in
[ "binary mode", not "text mode". At the PC, launch the MIDI player
[ program (like Cakewalk) and use its "Open..." menu to find the file
[ on the floppy disk and open it. -- Robbie
