The increase in attacks on servers connected to the Internet has
led us to implement some access restrictions to the MMD server.
We thought that most users would not notice any changes. However,
it was discovered that the restrictions affect the ability of both
Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer to retrieve the files pointed
to by URLs that begin with ftp://
Each night the current Digest is placed in the FTP archive so that
visitors and users who have deleted their incoming mail can retrieve
(and possibly print) the Digest.
I have adjusted the URL that is generated in the Archive pages for
retrieving the unformatted Digests to use HTTP rather than FTP.
Visitors who prefer to type the URLs by hand can use the following new
format, shown by this example for 01 Apr 2000:
http://mmd.foxtail.com/Archives/RawDigests/00.04/digest.00.04.01.txt
I apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this change is likely
to cause, especially to the readers who don't get the Digest by e-mail,
but we had to make the change to protect ourselves from intruders.

P.S.: The FTP archive is still there and, for now, can be accessed by
FTP clients (programs) which don't require the use of "PASSIVE" mode.
