MIDI Player Piano Challenge Tune
By George Bogatko

Wow, boys and girls! Here's a MIDI challenge for all you PowerRoll,
Disklavier and synth types. It's real simple. Download the MIDI file
found at http://www.inluxeditions.com/playerchallange/

Then, make a recording on a MIDI'fied mechanical instrument or external
synth (not a computer synth - that's cheating), and let the rest of us
hear it. We'll see what machines play it best. Be warned, however,
that it's a torture test. Lots of fast thick chords to exhaust the
reservoir, and all those chords line up with machine precision -- no
arpeggios allowed here!

Play "Improv2.ram" (the RealAudio) version to hear a "perfect"
rendition done on an AWE64 card using Warren Trachtman's 4-layer
Steinway font. Use the BAR and ANN files to play it on a PowerRoll.
Use the MID file to play it on a pure MIDI device. Try playing the
MID file through the PowerRoll MIDI interface. Finally, you can
download the MP3 version to hear a "higher-fi" version of the "perfect"
rendition (in stereo no less).

Annnnnd, if you want an 88-note version, I can get that as well :-),
but only on a subscription basis. When you hear it you'll know why.
