I'm offering this item to MMD'ers before I put it up for sale to the
general public for reasons explained below.
The instrument is a 1924 Baldwin Modello upright with Manualo player.
I'm an experienced (25+ years) piano tech, but not a player specialist.
I've fully restored the piano as an instrument, including: refinished
the cabinet and plate, completely restrung with new bass and treble
strings and tuning pins, as well as new hammers, dampers, keytops,
bridle straps, keybed felts. All metal parts have been newly nickel
plated. Action fully regulated and piano tuned to A-440 pitch.
The piano is structurally sound, with good pinblock, no cracks in the
soundboard or bridges, keys and action parts in good condition. It has
a beautiful tone and very responsive action.
The player unit is all present, but needs complete restoration. I've
run out of time and space and would like to know it will be restored
as a player, but won't be able to do this myself. If I can't sell it
to a technician who will restore the player, I'll have to sell it as
a straight piano without the player, and I'd prefer not to waste what
could be a wonderful restored player.
I will sell it to a fellow technician for somewhat less than my cost of
materials and labor; that is for $2500. This is a great bargain for a
player tech who doesn't like/want/know how to restore pianos. You only
need to re-do the player, pop it into the piano, and you'll have a
fully restored original 1920s player that can be resold for
$7000-$10,000. Buyer must arrange and pay for shipping.
Piano is located in Petaluma, California, about an hour north of San
Francisco. You're welcome to come see and hear it. Will send photos
and detail shots in response to inquires. Feel free to email with any
questions or call me.
