Many thanks to all those members of the MMD who offered advice on the
possibility of finding Mechanical Music in Buenos Aires on our recent
sudden trip there - and to those others who wished us well on our
journey there from the UK.
In one shop in the San Telmo region of Buenos Aires we found
instruments wonderful quality, and enough to indicate that there must
be more hidden in the homes of the super-rich there (original horn
gramophones and phonographs, cylinder music boxes the size of small
coffins, barrel organs, a Racca piano etc.). But in fact we had no time
for research as unexpectedly tours were arranged for us to see the
Iguazu Falls in the north of the country and in the south the Perito
Moreno glacier and Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego (where there was an
early musical slot machine, not working, in one of the museums).
Superb experiences, and recommended to all, whether musical or not!
May we please thank through your columns MMDer Horacio Asborno from
Patagonia, Argentina (who was in California for the whole of our time
there), as his e-mail address did not accept the message of thanks we
sent personally.
What great guys you all are!
