Here is my own experience with regard to incompetence. I have just
reached my 57th birthday, and it seems that the more I learn, the more
I see that there is to learn. I find that incompetent people are quite
content with the limited knowledge that they have.
I can't imagine what it would be like to give up learning. My mother,
who was a school teacher in a 1-room 8-grade school most of her career,
learned to use a computer when she was 75, and became quite capable
with it. Based on that and other experiences I suppose I had a good
teacher.
Another thing I learned is that an expert simply has made most of the
mistakes that are available in their field and have learned from their
mistakes. They also learned to listen to the mistakes of other experts
and profited from them.
Best to all of you.
