Making Name Plates By Acid Etching
By Craig Smith

Don Teach reported that an engineer from Beard Industries in Shreveport
brought some clear sheets of some kind that run in the photocopy
machine. The artwork was transferred to the sheets.

He probably got those sheets from Xerox. Xerox makes a special
transfer material for making iron-on transfers for T-shirts, etc.
I don't know the number off hand, but if you call the Xerox 800 number
they can tell you.

You do NOT want the sheets that are made for the same purpose to run
in an ink jet printer. It MUST be for a xerographic machine. You can
coat the back and edges of the nameplate with just about any spray
paint. Make the print as dark as possible without blurring the image.

The silk-screen method does make a better image. You can keep the cost
down by making all the plates on one sheet of brass or by having them
make a lot of copies on one transfer sheet that you can press onto the
brass.
