C. Borden & Co. "New American Music Box"
By Todd Augsburger

I asked the owner of an interesting Concert Roller Organ with "Extras"
to post some detailed pictures so that I could get a good look at the
mechanism. See http://users.telerama.com/~bbr0bb/ro01.html

The added features consist of two locks (on front and top doors), an
ornamented wooden face plate to cover the valves, and a lever extending
from the mechanism to the outside of the case.

The mechanism itself is unchanged from the standard configuration.
I assume that the purpose of the face plate is cosmetic. The lever
can be used to release the roller (cob) to return it to its starting
position. (Normally that is accomplished automatically by a pin which
trips the release as the roller rotates, but I suspect that the lever
was added for additional reliability since the case might be locked.)
I wonder why the owner found it necessary to be locked? Curious.

The distributor's name is "C. Borden & Co., Purveyor New American
Music Box, 5&7 Murray St., N.Y. City USA." Is this a factory job,
a distributor's modification, or an owner's additions? Have you ever
seen one like this?
